The new echinacea is a wonderfully unusual, bicolored flower for late summer.

One of the easiest perennials, echinacea takes a variety of conditions from dy to moist (but well drained), best in full sun but tolerant of part sun.

Deadheading flower heads will induce more flowering, but the seed heads are beloved by birds if you do not deadhead.

Like all perennials, the first year planted might be slow or even disappointing, but each year they get stronger and stronger and more and more beautiful. BE PATIENT.

Sun exposure: Full sun (best), part sun, part shade

Zone: 3-8

Size: up to 40 inches tall and 24 inches wide

Bloom time: July through September

  • Good for butterflies, hummingbirds, bees
