Cucurbita moschata

'Musquee de Provence' is a must-grow in our family. Stunningly beautiful, disease and pest resistant, and the most delicious flesh of any pumpkin we have tried. Growing up to 20 pounds, this pumpkin was often sold by the slice in the mid-1800s French markets, and brought to America in 1895. The flesh ripens from green to a mottled burnt sienna and holds exceptionally well in storage after 1-2 weeks of curing.

'mochata' varieties are much more hardy and disease resistant than other types of squash. If you think you can't grow it because of squash bugs, vine borers, or mildew, try a moschata! I think you'll be pleased.
