Pineapple sage is one of those incredibly versatile plants that belong in every garden, whether it is in a pot on the patio, displayed promenently in the flower and herb gardens, or even made into a seasonal, informal hedge. 

 

As the name suggests, pineapple sage has a slight pineapple smell and taste. Hummingbirds adore the showy red flowers, and you'll love them too on your salads! And check with your local herbalist about it's many and important uses. 

 

Like all perennials, the first year planted might be slow or even disappointing, but each year they get stronger and stronger and more and more beautiful. BE PATIENT. 

 

Sun exposure: Full sun (best), part sun, part shade

Zone: 8-10. In zone 8, plant will die back in a freeze, but come back again in the spring.

Size: up to 3' tall and wide

Bloom time: late sumemr

Uses:

  • Edible flowers
  • Hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees
  • Medicinal
  • Propagation: open-pollinated, propagate from cuttings
